DHL takes over Philips Consumer Electronics European Spare Parts Management activities
As of 01 June 2005 supply chain specialist DHL Solutions has assumed responsibility for the Spare Parts Management activities of Philips Consumer Electronics Europe. The workforce of 110 will join DHL Solutions.
Wim van Gils, General Manager of Philips Consumer Electronics Euroservice: "This is a logical step for Philips. Philips is continuously working at improving its service towards its consumers as well as dealer and repair network. On the other hand we constantly are reviewing our business critical processes. We believe that with our partner, DHL Solutions, Philips CE will be best positioned for the challenges in the evolutions of Spare Parts Management. DHL came best out of our intensive selection process. They are specialized in offering high quality express and customized supply chain management solutions, which will further improve and optimize the spare parts operations process, thus the service to our customers."
Philips and DHL confirm that the legal position of the 110 Philips employees was negotiated thoroughly with the Workers Council and the Trade Unions. Both gave their positive unrestricted advice to the transfer. There will be no forced dismissals. Karel van Ellinkhuizen, Managing Director of DHL Solutions Nederland calls it a trend. "We are in a position like no other to take on the logistics operations of large manufacturers and use our professional expertise to continue and improve them. Philips is shifting its focus to concentrate more on product innovation and sales, while our core business is warehousing and supply chain management. Euroservice activities are ideally suited to DHL Solutions, and that is why I feel confident calling this a perfect match."
Van Ellinkhuizen anticipates that Philips will not be the last major manufacturer in Europe to choose DHL Solutions to handle its spare parts process. He has observed a re-orientation within the industry. DHL Solutions aims to offer each customer a suitable logistics alternative.
The intention is to transfer the Philips operation in Eindhoven/Strijp to the DHL site in Acht, near Eindhoven. The activities that have been taken over clearly go beyond the traditional scope of logistics outsourcing. DHL Solutions will be responsible for the entire stock management process, including setting inventory levels, customer order administration and financial management.
Philips has concluded a six-year contract with DHL Solutions.
